FOLLOW FRIDAYS
Okay, so I guess I am blogging now. LOL. I have become quite addicted to twitter; but knowing there is a space in this cyber world where I could actually voice my thoughts is a bit frightening.
When I first started on Twitter, I quite enjoyed the anonymity. That kind of disappears as you get to know some of the Tweet Heads. I have found myself being less frivolous and more aware of what I tweet. Not that I would tweet something that couldn't be published in any public site; I manage to keep many swear words in my head and my fingers have been trained to edit them out of anything that I write. And I write a lot, so I have an arsenal of swear words floating in my head at any given time.
And, I believe when we all start, we get excited about people choosing to follow us. I was surprised by my own reaction - still am, when I get a new follower. It's kind of a freebee boost that comes on a daily basis. I like trying tweeters on for size, and I particularly love to follow people who have completely opposite viewpoints to my own. I even like to follow fanatics. One of my most fun days was arguing with @OTOOLEFAN, [not that I am implying in any way shape or form that @OTOOLEFAN is a fanatic] about the insidious act of torture. I was playing the devil's advocate; and it sparked a few new thoughts on the subject for me. Twitter is a very cool way to keep your mind active and alert. There's more I could write on this, but this is my first (and maybe my last) blog and I need to talk..Follow Fridays...
... It seemed like a good idea at the time.... When I began FF's, I had fewer than 500 followers. I enjoy all of the people I follow, but time doesn't allow me to keep up with all, so I created a list. But it has over 500 people on it now. I actually wish I had not begun the FF ritual. I LOVE the idea of sharing the people we have come to enjoy - but I was beginning to get an ulcer over creating the FF group. I was dreading Thursday evenings - which turned into Friday mornings. And then there was always the risk of missing people in your FF. And the anxiety continued as I would thank those that ff'd me, and they would thank me, and I am sure there were some double or triple ups on that process. In the past two weeks I thought I had it nailed. I would only do FF's with the people with whom I actually engage in conversation with during the week. But, it turns out that I am quite chatty, so that became even more arduous.
But what really bothered me about FF, is that I was beginning to lose some of the people whom I had come to enjoy. I have even been blocked by a few, and I have no doubt it was the clutter of FF in my stream. Now as fun as it is to get a new follower - it is equally as hurtful to lose a follower that you enjoyed. Especially to be blocked?
So where is all of this leading? I am going to stop doing FF's. I really hope that it does not annoy any of the people I follow - and I will always recommend that you follow everyone on my list and the rest who are all a cool group.
While I personally have no "apps", I wonder if one of the techy people that I follow and try to learn from couldn't come up with a more civilized, less time consuming and clutter free way to show our appreciation of our followers?
Until they do, I am going to continue to engage with the Tweet Heads I follow, and hope that they aren't pissed (oops, fingers are rebelling tonight) at me for not doing the FF's.
I'd like to also take this opportunity to thank everyone for the Shout Outs and mentions!
To a great weekend!
